°’Policy-paralysis’, the infamous phrase got coined around 2012 in context of the Indian Executive. Unfortunately, executive decision making had been quite sluggish during the period. The then PM Dr Singh, had to call a meeting of Secretaries to Govt of India in Apr 2012 to motivate them for taking timely decisions. In fact, even the current PM Sri Modi had to call a similar meeting in Jun 2019. This tendency of evading decisions can be seen persisting at different levels.

°Reason for this ‘shying away from decisions’ is usually accepted as ‘fear’ of possible enquiry by an investigative agency into an executive/managerial decision. This post is important for all those decision makers who are looking for a solution to their problem of fear in decision making.
°But what institutes ‘fear’ in decision maker’s mind, in the first place? The Gita says hypocrisy is the source of fear (दम्भ..the worst non-divine quality). Whenever a decision-maker; a public/industry executive, or “anyone else including a house holder (गृहस्थ)”, knowingly takes a decision that suffers from subjectivity/dishonesty, a decision which is not the best feasible, he/she commits hypocrisy. Such an unwarranted decision causes division in the mind, and the mind that is not unified, invariably suffers from fear.
°Way out? Be integral! By taking objective decisions, consciously aimed at good of all concerned i.e. for the efficient maintenance of society at large. Integral mind is ‘a unified whole’ hence fearless and fearlessness is the top Divine quality.

•Once integral inside…’fear of investigating agency’ or any other external factor will not be able to dissuade the decision maker from taking decisions, right decisions. Such executives, managers & individuals will better perform their professional ‘dharma’: the service of society..लोक-संग्रह (The Gita!) and lead a satisfied, fulfilled life through conscious decision making.
•Incidentally, recitation of 11/21 cycles of Omkar (ॐ) once a day provides positive therapeutic impact on courage function hence I recommend it for all decision makers. [For comprehensive study on how to do this please see Pearls of Wisdom-II]
